反腐败与经济增长的实证研究

摘  要:

Corruption is generally considered a key factor constraining economic growth, and there is an endogenous relationship between corruption and economic activity that is difficult to work out by empirical analysis. Employing Chinese provincial panel data from 2008-2015 and difference-in-differences (DID) estimation, this paper uses whether Provincial-level Secretaries of the CCDI served at the central level after the CPC 18th National Congress as a control variable for endogeneity, analyzes the impact of corruption on regional economic growths, and finds that increase in the degree of corruption has a significantly negative effect on regional economic growths in China. This paper also finds that the negative effect of corruption is largely due to growth inhibition of fixed-asset investment in non-state sectors, whereas no significant effect is seen on the growth of fixed-asset investment in state sectors. These findings have implications for deepening reforms in China’s economic and political systems in the future.
