摘要：This paper investigates the impact of international liberalization on the intranational deviations from the Law of One Price (LOP). We build a simple general equilibrium model featuring international trade barriers, nominal rigidities, and domestic transport costs. The model predicts that international trade liberalization reduces the volatility of intranational deviations from the Law of One Price, while has no impact on the persistence of the deviations. We analyze Chinese monthly retail prices at the city level, covering a period (1997-2012) that witnessed a sizable reduction in importing tariff around China’s WTO accession in late 2001, and find supportive evidence that is consistent with our theoretical predictions.
