On December 19, the 1st Yangtze River Delta Fintech Innovation and Application Global Competition and Fintech Frontiers and Development Forum was held in the lecture hall of Yifu Building, North Zhongshan Road Campus of East China Normal University. This event was co-hosted by ECNU’s Institute of Fintech Research and the Shanghai Huangpu District Financial Development Service Center and jointly organized by Shanghai Asia Business Development Co., Ltd. and the ABC Fintech LAB, Shanghai with the guidance of Shanghai Financial Association and ECNU.
With the theme of “Technology Empowering Mainstream Finance,” the forum gathered fintech experts, scholars, and entrepreneurs from all over the world to jointly promote the development of the fintech industry.

Qian Xuhong, President of ECNU, gave a speech where he discussed how, at this moment, fintech is at the forefront of the times. With AI, blockchain, cloud computing, and big data at its core, fintech is reshaping the entire financial industry. ECNU is a national first-class A-level university located in Shanghai. Our financial discipline development is based on the efforts of the Faculty of Economics and Management linking up with national and local development strategy needs and promoting innovation in the fintech field. President Qian Xuhong also mentioned that he is currently envisioning a “three-step strategy” and hopes to use this ECNU-featured strategy to promote the development of China’s fintech.

Zhou Aoying, Vice President of ECNU, analyzed the development of fintech from the perspective of blockchain. He believes that blockchain is the shadow of a new round of fintech re-entering the public eye and is a typical example of using computer technology to solve social and economic problems.

Lian Ping, Honorary Director of the SEM of ECNU and Chairman of the China Chief Economist Forum, gave a wonderful speech on fintech risk supervision. Lian Ping mentioned that in recent years, the financial industry has achieved rapid development in fintech, but risks need to be taken seriously, which include four aspects: security risks, legal risks, credit risks, and systemic risks. He also emphasized that special attention should be paid to the systemic financial risks that may be caused by industry monopolies and stated that a complete regulatory framework for the development of fintech should be built.

Zhou Hengchang, Chief Information Officer of Shanghai Rural Commercial Bank, gave a speech about the trend of the modern banking industry embracing fintech and the building of digital banks from four aspects: the understanding of fintech, how to implement the top-level design of a bank's digital transformation, how to promote a bank’s digital transformation in an all-round way, and the technical routes open for digital transformation. He also emphasized the importance of the talent team to the building of digital banks.

The first Yangtze River Delta Fintech Innovation and Application Global Competition (the ECNU quarter-finals) was held concurrently in the morning. Representative teams from 28 fintech companies and universities brought a feast of thoughts about technology-empowered finance.
