The Chinese Statistical Education Association and the National Graduate Education Steering Committee of Applied Statistics have announced the results of the 2020 National Statistical Modeling Competition. Seven teams from ECNU obtained one First Prize, one Second Prize, two Third Prizes, and three Excellence Awards. Associate Professor Xu Zhonghao from the School of Statistics won the Excellent Instructor Award.

The Postgraduate National Statistical Modeling Competition is a statistical application activity for postgraduates in colleges and universities in China. It aims to motivate students to learn statistics and applied statistics, use statistical methods to solve practical problems, and improve their ability to collect, sort, and analyze data. The theme this year is “Statistical Measurement of the Economic and Social Impact of Major Emergencies.” The competition includes the stages of qualification review, anonymous paper review, face-to-face evaluation by experts, and field report.
The School of Statistics of the SEM shouldered the responsibility of organizing, training, and selecting postgraduates from the school to participate. The working group led by Professor Wu Xianyi, the Deputy Dean of the School of Statistics, overcame difficulties during the epidemic, actively promoted and organized three online expert lectures, and provided guidance for students writing their papers and completing their final field reports, laying a solid foundation for the great results.
