To promote the high-quality development of the Faculty of Economics and Management, enhance forward-looking, scientific management and decision-making, and improve school administrative capacity, ECNU’s SEM established a Strategic Development Committee. On June 11, the Strategic Development Committee held its first meeting and appointment ceremony. Tang Liang, Representative of the National People's Congress and Chairman of Aosheng Group, Ji Guozhong, Deputy Director of the Organization Department of Baowu Iron and Steel Group, Professor Wei Hang, Executive Vice Dean of the School of Business of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Lu Weiming, Vice President of Orient Securities, Professor Yuan Zhigang, Director of the Academic Committee of SEM, Professor Yue Hua, Chair of the SEM Council, and 17 other experts and representatives of the Faculty attended the meeting.
At the meeting, Yue Hua, Chair of the SEM Council, announced the name list of the Strategy Committee of the SEM, and expressed her gratitude to the members who supported the development of the Faculty. She said that the establishment of the Strategic Development Committee is conducive to gathering the wisdom and strength of the members to help the Faculty reform and innovate, plan strategic goals, optimize their management framework, improve their internal governance structure, improve their management and decision-making level, and finally promote the high-quality and sustainable development of the Faculty.
Professor Yuan Zhigang, Director of the Academic Committee of the SEM, issued letters of appointment to the committee members and introduced the SEM’s current vision, mission, proposed development strategy, and strategic management framework to the participants. He pointed out that the development vision and mission of the Faculty are rooted in the vision and mission of ECNU, and he also mentioned the traditions of the disciplines of the Faculty, which focus on cross-disciplinary integration and the development needs of our times. He emphasized the goal of SEM that efforts should be made to promote the overall strength of the SEM to enter the domestic first-class sequence by 2030 and become a world-class higher education institution of economics, management, and statistics by 2035. Yuan Zhigang also shared the specific strategic measures of the SEM in six areas: student training, faculty team building, academic research, international exchange and cooperation, governance structure, and social influence.
In the discussion session with the participating experts, the committee members actively provided suggestions on the vision, mission, strategic goals and management framework of the SEM. Wei Hang, Executive Vice Dean of the School of Business of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, suggested that the mission and vision of the Faculty should highlight the characteristics and advantages of ECNU and clarify the cross-supporting relationship between various disciplines. Tang Liang, Representative of the National People's Congress and Chairman of Aosheng Group, emphasized that in the context of carbon neutrality and carbon peaking, the development strategy and goal setting of the Faculty should actively meet important national strategies and needs. Lu Weiming, Vice President of Orient Securities, put forward optimization suggestions in terms of the expression of strategic goals, the timeline of the strategic development stages, and the development background of the times. Ji Guozhong, Deputy Director of the Organization Department of Baowu Iron and Steel Group, proposed that the expression of the vision, mission, and strategic measures should be internationalized and easy to understand.
In addition, the meeting also approved the Working Rules for the Strategic Development Committee of the Faculty of Economics and Management of East China Normal University.
This year marks the beginning of the “14th Five-Year Plan” and the 70th anniversary of the founding of ECNU. In the early stage, 4 external experts (including 3 industry experts) and 15 internal experts were appointed to form the Strategic Development Committee of the SEM, with Yuan Zhigang as the Director, Lan Faqin as the Deputy Director, and Gao Enxin as the Secretary General.
