The 2020 ECNU Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Public Administration (MPA), and Master of Tourism Management (MTA) opening ceremony was held on September 20, 2020, at ECNU's North Zhongshan Road campus. Over 800 freshmen overcame various difficulties in this special time of fighting the pandemic, and gathered here to start their new journey. The ceremony was hosted by Dr. Ou Lihui, Deputy Director of the Professional Degree Education Center.
The construction of this well-prepared opening ceremony venue started from the early morning of September 17. In order to avoid indoor crowds during the pandemic, the Professional Degree Education Center of SEM moved the ceremony to the outdoor field for the first time.

The national anthem marked the official beginning of the opening ceremony. Vice President of ECNU, Zhou Aoying, gave the first speech, expressing a warm welcome and congratulations to the 2020 MBA, MPA, and MTA students. He emphasized that 2020 is an extraordinary and challenging year. With uncertainties ahead, Zhou Aoying put forward three expectations for the freshmen: to be innovation-orientated, stick to their dreams and to remain patriotic.
Yuan Zhigang, Director of the Academic Committee of SEM giving a speech
Director of the Academic Committee of SEM, Yuan Zhigang, introduced the history, organizational structure, teachers, scientific research, overseas exchanges, the development status, and interdisciplinary work of the Professional Degree Education Center. Professor Yuan Zhigang also gave students a micro-lecture focusing on global changes during the pandemic.

As a teacher representative, Du Gang gave a speech to the 2020 freshmen about “How to live and study in ECNU.” He put forward three suggestions: plan your lives, empower yourselves to create the future, and promote win-win cooperation.

Pan Yongping, representative of the 2015 MBA alumni and marketing director of Roche Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd., shared his life insights with the 2020 students. He introduced the transformation and talent needs of the pharmaceutical industry, highlighting the themes of breaking through our comfort zones and daring to change.

As a representative of the senior students, Chen Lujuan, shared her feelings about what she learned during a year of MBA study. She related how she gained comprehensive personal improvement in terms of knowledge, fitness, and broadening her horizons. Through participating in various learning activities, she also gained a deeper understanding of the meaning of respect, mutual understanding, and dedication.

The freshman representative Sun Hui from MPA delivered a speech on behalf of all the freshmen. She expressed her appreciation for the valuable opportunity to study at ECNU, sharing her experience of deciding to return to university after beginning tp work. She expressed her determination to maintain inner stability and focus on studying.
